Sqn Ldr Neil Cottrell is the Exercise TRANSGLOBE Project Officer. Neil Joined the Royal Navy as an Artificer Apprentice in 1977, where in addition to his technician training he learned how to sail dinghies at HMS Fisgard in Cornwall. He was hooked on offshore sailing by crewing on the RN yacht ADVENTURE (then a Nicholson 55ft) in the Tall Ships Race 1978 from Oslo to Gosport.
Since then he has changed Service to become an Engineering Officer in the RAF with fast jet, helicopter and Transport aircraft tours of duty. He has progressed from Novice to Yacht Master via a host of unit expeditions, regattas and courses at JSASTC. Having volunteered in 2006 to manage a RAF-crewed, Challenge 67 circumnavigation in 2009-2010, he was honoured to accept the extended role as the Tri-Service, Exercise TRANSGLOBE Project Officer.

The Project Team’s main tasks are:
- Manage the conduct of the exercise from its start in July 2009 to the completion in July 2010
- Administer the applications from all three services
- Manage the kitting, deployment, recovery and de-kitting of all participants
- Provide the essential link between participants and their families during the exercise, including the daily updates on the Exercise website
- Achieve and maintain the widest possible, positive media coverage of the Exercise

Petty Officer Andy Scott is the Royal Navy’s representative on the project team. Andy joined the Royal Navy in 1991 as a Weapons Engineer at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall. Having retrained as a communicator in 1994, he has seen service in several warships including Alacrity, Sheffield, Southampton, Ark Royal, Dulverton, Ocean, Hurworth and Manchester and has also held posts in Whitehall and Stavanger, Norway.
His sailing career started at an early age in the Sea Cadets and has progressed over the last 23 years to a love and passion. After sailing with friends and building miles he now holds qualifications as a RYA Dinghy instructor, Safety Boat coxswain and has recently passed his RYA Coastal Skipper exam at JSASTC in Gosport and hopes to eventually become an instructor.
He is very proud to have been selected to take the post as Project Team Navy and looks forward to the challenge of Exercise TRANSGLOBE. Can you handle the Challenge?

|
Staff Sergeant Clive Cooper is the Army’s representative on the project team. Clive joined the Army in 1988 as a Royal Engineer at Junior Leaders Regiment in Dover. Having transferred to the Adjutant Generals Corps in 1992, he has seen service in several Operational and Non-Operational theatres Colchester, Cambridge, Northern Irealand, Bosnia, Croatia, Carolina, Falkland Island, Kirton-in-Lindsay, Gutesloh, Cyprus, Kenya, Washington DC, Hereford, Wattisham, Arizona and Gosport
Clive has no sailing career and is looking forward to putting on his water-legs and leaving the landlubber behind.
He is very proud to have been selected to take the post as Project Team Army and looks forward to the challenge of Exercise TRANSGLOBE. Can you handle the Challenge?

Mrs Gerry Hulse is the team secretary and processes all the applications from volunteers wanting to participate in TRANSGLOBE. Gerry also manages all the admin processes. Gerry is a full time member of the JSASTC staff and we are very grateful to her and OIC JSASTC for her invaluable support.
Gerry is very proud to have been selected to take the post as Project Team Secretary and looks forward to the challenge of Exercise TRANSGLOBE. Can you handle the Challenge?

Medical Advisor
Group Captain Alison Amos has accepted the role of Medical Adviser to the Exercise. Gp Capt Amos is in charge of GP training for Service Doctors and is a keen sailor who has recently attained her Day Skipper Qualification. Gp Capt Amos will be crewing on DISCOVERER for the Hobart to Auckland leg.

Sue Pelling is a highly respected, free-lance journalist who specialises in coverage of all kinds of sailing activities.
